Has anyone ever used StewMac fret erasers to polish out finish touch-ups? |

I think a lot more needs to be known before a valid answer emerges. What kind of original finish, what is the touchup finish, what sort of result is desired, experience level of the person who's going to do the polishing. And appropriate materials to do the work, just having some fret erasers does not imply they're good for anything but working on frets. Folks who do this sort of work for a living would be good sources of advice. |

I'll admit I have thought about it.... I typically just use small pieces of silicone carbide paper and a pink rubber eraser as a block. I would get a set just for this purpose as my only fear is they may pick up and hold contamination leading to unwanted scratches. |

Stewmac has these on the web and as a collector of sometimes useless tools I find the idea good as I have always made up little blocks with fine grit wet sanding papers for the same purpose. I am sure that any psa backed abrasives and pencil erasers will do the same job. https://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_S ... ystem.html Fred |

Brian - good point about metal contamination, and Fred - nice mention about using sanding shapes. I just happened to be doing some finish touch-ups on a George Benson and my box of fret erasers caught my eye.... And of course, my brain followed that path. Hence, my post seeking to see if someone else had gone there before me. Obviously the subject bears more thought. |
